Spirituality, YOUR VIBRATIONS Vol. 2, No. 7 - 7.08.08 Hello!
I am back from a fantastic vacation in my hometown of Bogotá, Colombia, where I was celebrating my grandmother's 95th birthday. It's the same grandmother I thought I went to say goodbye to in February, so you can imagine how happy I was! In the picture, she is surrounded by some of her closest family: the kids and I, my parents, my uncle, aunt and cousin. Looking at her, even in the picture, you can tell how full of life she is. And being there, celebrating in the vibrant landscape of our farm, where everything seemed to be pulsating with life and growth, I couldn't help but be struck by the abundance of good that surrounds us. I hope my reflection on abundance, below, as well as the short exercise that follows, will help you appreciate the abundance there is in your life, and bring more of it to you! We will also meditate on attracting greater abundance to our lives during our next Connections meeting, see the calendar below for details, and bring your art supplies. TO LAMENT OR APPRECIATE?How often in my life I have complained about how little time I have to do the things I want to do, like reading novels and taking aimless walks in the woods. And how often I have wished I had more money, for example, so that I could take my kids on a trip to Galapagos Islands, to see the sea iguanas up close! Those are the two things I have chosen to focus on the most, but people around me have lamented their ill health, or their difficulty finding a life partner, or their bad luck. Last month I wrote about the Law of Attraction, in which like attracts like. Today I want to bring it up again because so many of us do what I am describing above, without realizing that we are putting the Law of Attraction into action! And we do it to an even greater degree when we accompany those thoughts with strong emotions. And you know first-hand that thoughts of lack are rarely free of emotions! Now that I am aware of the Law of Attraction, when I catch myself worrying about something, I try to change the focus. If I am wishing I had the money to buy a lakefront lot in the country that I recently heard about, I remind myself of all the bills I just paid, of the things I once never thought I would be able to afford, like organic veggies through a CSA. When I am really in a slump and everything seems bleak, I look to Nature to find innumerable examples of effortless abundance, from the air I breathe to each leaf on the tree outside my window! If I think hard enough, I manage to change my emotions from concern or yearning to gratitude and awe at all that I do have! And when I want the Universe to bring something my way, I first charge myself up to feel gratitude this way, and then I do the exercise you read about last month using Reiki. FOCUS ON ABUNDANCEThe following is an exercise to help you focus on the abundance in your life. I am adapting it from Meredith L. Young-Sowers. Write down all the sources of abundance in your life. Don't forget that these are not limited to the material sphere, you can include the air you breathe, the love you receive from your partner, parent or child, or the sustenance of an important friendship. When you are finished, take a moment to give thanks and feel the awe that seeing them in a list can produce. You are, once again, putting the Law of Attraction into action, only this time, it is for your good! If you have Reiki, you can channel the energy to yourself as you do this, to enhance the effect. If, like me, you find yourself unconsciously thinking of what you don't have, and you sometimes need reminders of the abundance in your life, you can write some of the sources on your list on sticky notes and put them on your bathroom mirror or the fridge, wherever you will see them regularly. When you do see them, you can repeat an affirmation of thanks for them, and if you have Reiki II, visualize the power symbol as you do so! This will keep your thoughts on the abundance that you want and will bring more of it, in all of its wonderful forms, to your life! Wishing you a great abundance of peace and joy and all things good, Andrea As you know, I feel passionate about Reiki and want to share it with all who could use it. To spread the word, I am holding free informational talks about Reiki in which I give mini-demonstrations. If you would like to bring one of these to your local library, church, or park, or if you would like to have one in your home with your friends (and you live in the Chicago area!), please contact me to make arrangements.
